    ASTROCAST
    Aries | Taurus | Gemini | Cancer | Leo | Virgo | Libra | Scorpio
    Sagittarius | Capricorn | Aquarius | Pisces
MAY 2003 — This month, we’re on a more slippery slope than usual when the Sun is in Taurus, for there’s a retrograde Mercury, also in Taurus. It’s likely to seem difficult to make anything “stick”, to make foundations firm. This is usually a time of the year when we yearn for routine, for something upon which to depend, but that may not be possible now. Do attempt to accomplish routine, daily tasks until Mercury resumes direct motion on the 20th. Venus in Aries and Mars in Aquarius are a masculine line-up. As these two affect romance, expect folks to be less sentimental or mushy, more aggressive and overt. If there’s something you don’t want to participate in sexually, better be prepared to set boundaries quickly! This pair surely does favor inventors, risk-takers, explorers and the like, however.

This month, we’re on a more slippery slope than usual when the Sun is in Taurus, for there’s a retrograde Mercury, also in Taurus.

Jupiter in Leo and Saturn in Gemini add more masculinity to the planetary picture. Jupiter oversees expansion and optimism, and there’s plenty of that to go around when He gets together with Leo! Saturn is the principle of contraction, and in Gemini, we see that most of our limitations are in the mind. Leo and Gemini are compatible, so the principles of expansion and contraction are working pretty well together.

We begin the month of May with a new moon, right on the 1st. This is a challenging moon in Taurus, with a “push me/pull you” sort of effect. Optimism is hard to generate and excess is just around the corner, waiting to grab us!

Minds are quite active the night of the 6th, perhaps busy rethinking a few things–especially “my way or the highway” thinking. That’s good, because the 7th’s Venus trine Pluto can resurrect a relationship., provided an expansive base is available.

The week of the 12th is bound to be highly emotionally charged, what with an intense full moon late on the 15th. There’s lunar eclipse, too, and eclipses are always highly charged. Energies seem to be spread all over the place, with an emphasis on relationships and shared money. Others tend to probe too deeply into personal issues, and to air dirty laundry we thought was so well hidden. This is a time in which to contemplate what’s really important to us individually, to think about materialism, sharing, good works and the state of Mother Nature. Heavy aspects to Neptune can encourage sticking our heads in the sand, but dealing with Self and others in a gentle way can reap rewards. Think, contemplate, just don’t hassle others with it. Inspire instead.

Venus moves into Taurus just after the full moon, on the 16th. Venus here imparts an earthy, sensible, practical attitude towards love and sex. It’s lusty, hungry but a bit sedentary. So, get out the grill, throw on some beef or soy, and hang around home with your sweetie. Have plenty of your favorite sweets around for dessert, and leave time for love play.

Thankfully, Mercury goes direct on the 20th. Time for planning and scheming is over, time for airing ideas (Sun moves into Gemini, ruling networking and thought on the 21st) and branching out a bit.

The 23d/24th’s Sun square Uranus shakes us up, causing general bedlam and anti-authoritarianism. It will be intriguing to see what the news reveals on these days. And now for the unusual–another new moon, this time in Gemini, in the wee hours of the A.M. on the 31st. And, guess what? Another eclipse, too! The last eclipse at around the same degrees of the same signs (Gemini and Sagittarius) was in May of 1984, so similar issues can be raised now as were then. This is a time in which to utilize your smarts, your philosophy and/or religion, and maintain an open mind as well. This is, like the 23d/24th, another rebellious time. Emphasize free thinking, but watch your attitude.

Horoscope for Each Sign (read your ascendant, too, if you know that).

    Aries (MAR 20 - APR 20):
Through the 20th, be aware that money can just slip through your fingers. Plan ahead, keep a little aside for things you’ve forgotten. Venus favors your love life, just know that communication is tricky now. Practicing the art of listening helps. And, staying focused on a subject without running on is another great talent. You’re very “Martian” (your ruling planet) now, with Mars at the top of your chart. You’ll be funneling lots of energy into travel, sports, recreation, ecology, spirituality or career. Those born around the 1st of April could experience a bit of luck, but don’t overdo anything, especially not while Mercury is retrograde through the 20th. Emotions, suspicions, rigidity are emphasized on the 14th and 15th. You can’t force others to be honest, but you can be gently forthcoming yourself. As the Sun slips into Gemini on the 21st, your more moderate pace picks up speed!

    Taurus (APR 21 - MAY 21):
Your stubbornness is a double-edged sword now, with the Sun in your sign, but Mercury retrograde in Taurus too. Push to a comfortable point, but know when to save something for later–like, after the 20th! Nature, group travel, philanthropic efforts, spirituality and travel are likely to provide fun distractions. Things can get testy on the 8th–a bit of healing work or an attitude adjustment can help a lot. Getting Self and others to slow down will help, too. The week of the 12th certainly is emotional, with the Sun in your sign and the moon opposite. This a week in which to deeply consider another’s point of view before going off on a tangent. And, take a look at your own emotions and responses–you are being given a chance to see them quite clearly. Venus’ entrance into Taurus on the 16th is a bonus, both in love and material areas. Try to learn the most you can about your way of making a living after the 21st. More money can come to those who are informed.

    Gemini (MAY 22 - JUN 21):
There’s a lot of activity in your 12th house most of the month. This is a fearful place, full of self-undoing, and it will help you to be aware of this. It’s best to rest a bit, contemplate but don’t over-think things. Over thinking and talking too fast can get you into trouble just as fast as it can save you! Luckily, positive thoughts and a desire to change should be rewarded. And the bedroom is a place in which you and your partner can vent some steam, lovingly. Even efforts to help others can be thwarted, but all will settle in to a comfort level after the 20th. If you don’t feel so terribly great around the 15th, mind over matter will come in handy. A walk in Nature will also perk you up. You’re a bit wild and crazy on the new moon in Gemini on the 31st. Use this energy in a positive way! Saturn weighs heavily on those born near the 20th, but also serves to center and ground you. Live up to responsibilities and things will move along.

    Cancer (JUN 22 - JUL 22):
Through the 20th, stay more focused on learning and experimenting as opposed to obsessing over attainment of goals. You can still reach some goals, but perhaps not in the ordinary or standard way. Friends can be quite unpredictable now, and you’ll need to balance precariously between intervention and “hands off” Only your intuition knows for sure. Do stand up for yourself if someone begins to be a nuisance. Luckily, Venus at the top of your chart insures that someone will be on your side, helping in a personal way or as relates to career and public image. Many will see you in a positive light. Perhaps this will bring out a bit of jealousy along the way. Seek to inspire confidence in others who seem insecure–that will offset this tendency towards jealousy. As the Sun moves into Gemini on the 21st, many of you will enter a more introverted, thoughtful stage. You’re striving to sort things out and bring a cycle to an end prior to a new beginning at your birthday.

    Leo (JUL 23 - AUG 22):
You're throwing a lot of energy into work, career and organization. At times you'll have to re-do things, but that's just Mercury retrograde having some fun! (through the 20th) Do pay attention to both your health and your family, or you'll have too much making up to do. You will especially notice this around the time of the 15th's full moon. If you have time for a chiropractic visit, Reiki or similar session, you'll remain more in tune for all the work to be accomplished. A bit of insight could help a child or employee from backsliding into an old behavior. Or, perhaps you can benefit from the observations of another. Either way, stay observant of Self and others. Goals are reached more easily after the 21st. Spend some time with friends, invest some time or money in an humanitarian effort. Try something new. God knows, you're not shy.

    Virgo (AUG 23 - SEPT 22):
It’s a great time in which to try a new activity, as long as your gut tells you it’s safe. Since Mercury is retrograde through the 20th, it’s perhaps not the best time in which to learn to operate a chain saw or bungee-jump. You’ll be less accident-prone after the 20th. But anyway, it’s time to have some fun, go out on a date, and enjoy kid’s activities. Your kids could show a bit of rebelliousness this month. You may be able to get away with telling them a tame but wild story of your own, or staying in the flow until the rebellion rides itself out. Use your best judgment. Take utmost care when driving and operating machinery around full moon time, the 15th. Family matters and career are of great interest after the 21st. Perhaps you’ll be honored in some way. Your inventiveness is appreciated!

    Libra (SEPT 23 - OCT 22):
The prevailing Taurean energies take you to your darker side, so be aware of yourself and willing to make changes for the better. Shared money, sexuality and forgiveness are highlighted. If your partner tends to bounce checks, keep an eye out. If you're applying for a loan, call them if they don't call you-it may just be an oversight. Don't be shy in the bedroom, as a silent form of communication may be the best now. Don't avoid important conversations, certainly, just be open to others as well. Telepathy, anyone? Venus in Aries brings playmates into your life, although Mars in Aquarius sure screws up your emotions! Therefore, keep interactions light, light-filled and don't take things so personally. Life tends to become more optimistic and more expansive after the Sun's entrance into Gemini on the 21st. You can experience a spiritual epiphany on the 31st's new moon.

    Scorpio (OCT 23 - NOV 22):
The Sun and Mercury retrograde in Taurus emphasize your seventh house of relationships, the law and open enemies. Surely, your partner will display loyalty to you, but may become confused on specifics such as where and when to meet for dinner. Give him or her a break if possible! A little understanding goes a long way. Those involved in court proceedings may find that a case is continued, or takes longer to clear up in some way. And, if you know for sure someone you know is crazy, be especially vigilant around the eclipses on the 15th and 31st. Mars in Aquarius can bring up some screwy emotions. Deal with these in a heart-centered way. Your focus continues on self-improvement as the Sun enters Gemini on the 21st. As well, sexuality, shared money, credit, loans and grants are highlighted.

    Sagittarius (NOV 22 - DEC 19):
With Pluto in your sign, some of you are catalysts for change, and some are in process of great changes-both within and in the outer world. Things at work or in the health area are emphasized, and unfortunately, some projects/tests/procedures, etc. will have to be done over . It's really best not to schedule really big things during Mercury retrograde (through the 20th) anyway, but some things just can't be avoided. So be on time, say your prayers and stay focused. Health-wise, expect a few kinks here and there, especially in the area of digestion. Don't get overly alarmed, but do get problems looked into if your common sense leads you to do so. Some problems will begin to resolve themselves after Mercury goes direct on the 20th. Watch your boundaries the week of the 12th. Others may try to see if they can take advantage! As the Sun moves into Gemini on the 21st, the emphasis revolves around making good relationships. You can show others that you care both by word and deed. Small things really count now. The 31st's new moon with eclipse can shake you up a bit. Emotions are high, but so are valor and faith.

    Capricorn (DEC 20 - JAN 19):
Mars in Aquarius stimulates some good ideas in the area of money-making-one of your favorite areas! Children, fun and recreation are yours to enjoy-but Mercury retrograde can mess up the details occasionally. So, double-check plans and avoid extremely risky forms of entertainment. If children seem to backslide in behavior, your role as friend and resource person will be invaluable. The weirdest things can help! Venus at the bottom of your chart is cozy, homey, and makes for good meals and good family interactions. The week of the 12th's full moon with eclipse can stimulate a new perspective-that's good! It can also bring some pretty strange happenings into your life path, so be vigilant and aware, and be prepared to wing it at times.

    Aquarius (JAN 20 - FEB 19):
You'll enjoy spending more time at home and with the family. Cooking, sewing and other domestic arts appeal. At the beginning of the month, be sure you know what you want related to family or home before you plunge into projects. You may have cool ideas, but no true plan for follow-through. It's better to wait, perhaps, than to have to re-do. You seem to have lots of energy for errands, small trips, education, writing and reading. Since Mercury is retrograde through the 20th, just be extra cautious when driving and operating tools and equipment. Saturn continues to impact your love life and status as a parent. Responsible behavior is imperative, as is setting a good example. You're more comfortable after the 21st, as the Sun enters Gemini, another air sign. Fun, courtship, kids and the arts hold great interest for you then.

    Pisces (FEB 20 - MAR 19):
Choose thoughts, words and direction carefully during the Mercury retrograde phase, through the 20th of May. Your house of Gemini is impacted by the retrograde, so travel, schedules, the computer, and the aforementioned all need extra care. Every project requires extra planning and attentiveness. Venus in Aries can fatten your bank account, especially if you utilize intuition and hidden allies for guidance. Networking , even with those in the background, can prove fruitful. The week of the 12th, especially around the 14th and 15th, can impact love or parenting. It's sort of hard to know where you stand and thought processes may not work as clearly as you'd like-a Piscean curse! Have faith, be willing to shift gears a little, keep thinking and talking positively. You're in a much more domestic mode near month's end. Try new recipes, invite acquaintances over. You may feel a bit unpredictable on the 31st due to the eclipse and aspects to Uranus. Watch out, or you'll undo some good that's been done.
