AUGUST 2003 — A glance at the August planetary skies reveal that the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter move through Leo, then Virgo, while Neptune occupies Aquarius and Mars and Uranus occupy positions in Pisces. Leo and Aquarius are polar opposites, as are Virgo and Pisces. Leo is quite self-centered and dramatic, Virgo demands hard work and detail, integrity and accountability. Aquarius and Pisces are much more "All is One" oriented, more flying by the seat of the pants and intuitive. Thus, this month could spur some conflict, both internal and external. The idea is to find a point of co-operation and harmony, but of course, not all of us will. Goodness knows to what this will lead on the global level. On a more personal level, our impatience or impulsiveness can lead us away from what we really want. Laziness can do the same thing. We need to look before we leap and be on the lookout for deception, both self-deception and crookedness in others. Staying focused and grounded takes a little more practice, and unforeseen or strange events can knock us off balance. So we must remain mindful and aware.
Venus and Mars are two of the opposed planets. Remember, Venus is feminine and the female side of love, Mars is masculine and the male side of love. All of us may suffer a bit this month romantically, struggling regarding what we want and how to get it! Making sure that you and your loved one feel safe, that your daily needs are met and that health is all right, satisfies the Venus in Virgo part somewhat. Offering mysticism, poetry, inspiration and romance satisfies the Mars in Pisces part to an extent. After that, it’s up to the individual’s creativity! Sharing massage, brewing up strange herbal teas, eating healthful foods, working out together, are Virgoan activities. Swimming, scuba-diving, sailing, fishing and the arts are Piscean activities. Try some of the above for stimulation towards resolution of the romantic conundrum presented this August.
At least the Sun and Venus make friends, traveling together all month. The Sun is active, the Will, whereas Venus is passive, magnetic, charming and indulgent. Venus is considered beneficial, so hopefully she will mitigate some of the other difficulties we’re attempting to resolve! Those late in Aries, Leo or Sagittarius (fire) and those late in Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn (earth) should especially benefit.
We all can utilize the Sun/Venus conjunction (I’m using this term loosely) in some way. Until the 23d, live large, have fun, enjoy games and the arts (especially live theatre). Spend time in the Sun if that’s compatible with your skin type. The only exclusion is the period between the 4th and 9th, which calls for some restraint. After the 23d, go thrift-shopping, yard-saling, peruse end-of-season sales. Tune into your body and treat it lovingly, with good nutritive foods and drinks and appropriate exercise.
Mercury goes retrograde on the 27th, so take all the usual precautions, like not signing contracts, driving more cautiously, checking detail work. Attempt to get any needed repairs performed before that time. For car repair, I favor the 7the, 11th, 13th, 16th and 23d as good dates for mechanical matters.
The Sun opposes Neptune on the 4th, so be especially mindful of the tendency towards deception (don’t forget self-deception!) on and around that date. We must also strive harder for focus, as Neptune is most distracting! Venus oppose Neptune on the 7th is similar, but may relate more specifically to love and monetary concerns.
The Sun trines Pluto on the 10th–a powerful event that occurs a few times per year. Since both planets are in fire signs, expect a creative boost, displays of intensity and passion, a deepening of commitment around that date. We will be more resourceful regarding meeting our own needs/
The full moon occurs at 19 degrees Aquarius (with the Sun at 19 degrees Leo) at 12:48 AM EST. This contains a ground-breaking energy, so try something new, break out of the ordinary. Step out of your Ego and think of the Whole. Or, find a way to balance the two forces. Remember, full moons always have an emotional, impulsive content.
The Sun conjuncts Venus at 26 degrees Leo on the 18th. This could be a lucky day for Those born late in the signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Also, if your ascendant is late in those signs, consider yourself blessed on or around that day. A second chance occurs when The Sun and Venus conjunct on the 21st, followed by Jupiter conjunct Sun on the 22d. The 21st and 22d carry with them a nice expansive vibe from which all can benefit. Love, travel, education and spirituality get a boost from these lovely conjunctions. Spirits are lifted as well!
The Sun enters Virgo on the 23d this year. Virgo, an earth sign, rules hard work, organization and healthful eating.
On the 24th, a Sun/Uranus opposition feels similar to a full moon. The energies are inventive but strange, exciting but sometimes totally unexpected. Certainly the weather patterns can be crazy and atypical, extra-hot or stormy.
Venus opposes Mars on the 26th, possibly bringing romantic or sexual matters to a crisis point. But, you’ve been working on this all month, so you’ll be prepared to perceive this as an opportunity to blend the masculine and feminine within.
The new moon is on the 27th at 1:26 PM EST. The Sun and moon sit at 4 degrees Virgo, sign of the reaping. It’s a great day in which to consider where your energies are best applied, especially in the job area. Look at yourself objectively, consider your work ethic, expertise and talents. Where do you best fit in at this time? Go for it!
Remember, Mercury goes retrograde in Virgo until September 20th. This happens about 3 times per year, although 2003 contains 4 Mercury retrograde periods. Virgo is the sign of health, so don’t neglect yours during this retrograde.
On the 30th, an opposition of Jupiter and Uranus is certainly fun-loving, inventive and expansive. However, someone may feel that we are expanding at their expense. Watch the global community for feelings of freedoms being overrun during this time. Apply spirituality to your lifestyle for best effect.

It may take more discipline to focus and apply your energies. Friendships can be inspiring, exciting or rocky and deceptive. Balance compassion for others with compassion for yourself. You may have to bail if a friendship demands too much risk from you. Saturn in Cancer squares those born around the end of March. This can impart a serious, heavy feeling that can lead to depression or isolation. Realize that accountability and maturity are primarily the cure for this feeling.

Karma is working itself out in your personal and partnership areas. That which has been taken away may finds its rightful owner. Sexuality and finances both seek balance.  Gemini (MAY 22 - JUN 21):
The Sun emphasizes neighbors, home, daily life and learning. Spend time at the library, take a class related to a hobby or interest, organize a neighborhood barbecue. Your challenge this month is to balance the thinking mind with the philosophical, spiritual mind (the Higher Mind). Whether or not to travel or scale a mountain presents a conundrum. The trick is determining where you really want to focus your energies. Saturn is finally out of your sign, which should free you up a bit.

 Cancer (JUN 22 - JUL 22):
Four planets stimulate your house of money. There are those who would divert that cash-consider, is it for the right cause? Sexuality can be a very high, spiritual experience or a rip-off. This is not a time to squander your sexual energies. Don't waste your love on one who's not able to appreciate it value. Late month, you're taking care of business-daily life, car and appliance repairs, errands. Spend time at the library or museums. Saturn in Cancer catches up with those of you born around late June. This can produce a "Why Me?" feeling, tiredness, depression. Usually hard work and self-discipline are engendered by Saturn. Face up to responsibility, perform to your best level and most things will work out.

 Leo (JUL 23 - AUG 22):
You are highly stimulated by the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter in your sign most of the month! So many activities appeal to you and it takes discernment to decide upon what to focus at any given time. Remember, there are those out there who would distract you! The balance between Self and relationships is focal. This is an important area to explore. Are you selfish, self-deluded or blinded by a sexual attraction? If so, intend to make some changes. Those born August 16th, give or take a day, may well experience a lucky event! Just don't push that luck too far.

 Virgo (AUG 23 - SEPT 22):
You dedicate much of your time and concern to others this month. Perhaps you move away from personal involvement and more towards a group humanitarian effort. Friendships are emphasized now. Be sure that you know that you deserve healthy friendships, and intend to weed out those who are undependable or dishonest. You don't need to validate these types. Late August, you are oriented towards rest, meditation and service to others.

The Sun and three other planets highlight your areas of career, then, later in August, goal attainment. A part of you may want to hide, snooze or continue a project at home, but this really is the month for career accomplishment. You'll probably be able to utilize the full moon's energy (the 12th) as rocket fuel. You'll see results of your efforts by month's end. Spend some time pondering your goals and the order of their completion. Even if you don't receive public recognition, your efforts will be rewarded tangibly.

You are underway with diversification of your talents. Expansion is occurring in other areas, too. Your mind may at times be difficult to control, due to both wild and spacey planets in your mental area. However, they also offer inventiveness and intuition. The balance between the need for details and the need to go forward on faith is the tightrope you must walk in August. A conflict is presented between your need to be independent/goal-seeking(fast!) or dreamy and lost in fantasy (slow) and your need to communicate, socialize and enjoy relationships. The full moon in your sign on the 12th can bring Self vs. Others issues to a head, but also brings up opportunities for resolution. It can be quite a social and artsy month. Focus on events and shows that feature a content consistent with your beliefs and interests for maximum enjoyment. Late in August, finances can improve, but to do so seems to involve constant "tweaking" and adjusting.

 Pisces (FEB 20 - MAR 19):
You're focused on work, service to others and health. Whether or not you can be friends with those at work remains in question. But surely you share some fundamental values and goals upon which to build. Look for the commonality and respect the individuality. Pisceans tend to want to blend with others in an unhealthy way, so maintaining boundaries will please all ultimately. Health wise, a trip to an alternate practitioner such as a healer, acupuncturist or herbalist can head off problems.
